What does an urbanist do?

Urbanists work on planning, designing, and managing spatial environments. The work involves a wide spectrum: spatial planning, urban planning, traffic flows, infrastructure, and public space. They ensure sustainable development and quality of life in both urban and rural areas. Urbanists work not only in government agencies but also in private firms. Their work can range from designing new urban districts to the redevelopment of existing neighbourhoods and addressing current urban issues. Planning for rural areas and villages is also within the scope of work for urbanists.

Professional Association of Dutch Urban Planners and Planners (BNSP)

The BNSP is an association of professionals, firms, and institutes, parts of government organizations, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions working in spatial planning, spatial research, urban planning, and planning. More information about the work of an urbanist and the BNSP can be found on bnsp.nl.
