What does an architect do?

Houses and buildings are designed by architects. This includes large projects such as residential complexes, schools, libraries, offices, businesses, or hospitals. It also includes the transformation of existing buildings. If you want to build your own house as a private individual, you can turn to an architect. Additionally, architects can design renovations for existing homes and provide advice on your ideas as a client. In short, the architect collaborates with you to brainstorm and design, and then your desires are visualized in design and construction drawings.

As a central figure, the architect typically has overall responsibility for the project, understands the permit requirements, and is closely involved in the execution in most cases. In consultation with all parties involved (especially specialists and builders), he or she guides the technical and administrative process and ensures that the project is realized.

Association of Dutch Architectural Firms (BNA)

Nearly 1000 architectural firms are united in the BNA. Architectural firms affiliated with the BNA adhere to an association code of conduct that defines responsibility, integrity, and professionalism. More information about the work of an architect and the BNA can be found on bna.nl.
