Representative survey among architects from 29 European countries
One of the tasks of the Architects Register is to collaborate with sector organisations within Europe. Last year, Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) asked for our help and that of the BNA to forward the biennial survey ACE sector study to Dutch registered architects. No less than 10% of this group completed the questionnaire.
The 9th edition of the Sector Study is now published – a biennial report that provides crucial insights into the state of architecture in Europe in 2024. With responses from 28,000 architects from 29 countries, this year’s study is the most comprehensive to date and provides key data on:
The growing architectural workforce – 580,000 architects in Europe, an increase of 8% over the past decade.
The rise of sustainable design – with 54% of architects regularly incorporating low-energy principles
The economic footprint of architecture – €26 billion in total revenue
Gender parity is approaching – women now represent 45% of the profession
Architectural firms remain small – almost 70% are solo practices.
ACE Chair Ruth Schagemann: "Architecture is no longer just about building structures – it is about shaping the future. Sustainability is no longer a trend, but a basic expectation. Architects must lead the fight for a built environment that is resilient, responsible and ready for the challenges of the future."
The ACE Sector Study is an essential resource for anyone involved in architecture and the built environment.
